This isn’t really a recipe, more a How To.
If you want to make some fun Halloween themed food that the whole family will like, but can’t be bothered to get the mixing bowels and cake tins out, I got you.
Below, I’ve shared 4 different Halloween themed pizzas for you to make, each at a different level of difficulty and effort (though you don’t need to be a chef to make any of them). I’ve started with the most difficult – a 3D Pumpkin Pizza Ball, and work my way through to the easiest – a Shroom Ghouls Pizza.
If you like, you can make your own pizza dough (recipe here). But if that seems like too much effort, just buy some ready made dough and roll it out. If even that seems like a step too far, grab a cheap cheese pizza from the supermarket and scroll down to my Shroom Ghouls Pizza. However much effort you feel like making, I have a spooky themed pizza for you. But don’t just stick to my instructions, feel free to get creative.
What You’ll Need:
- Pizza dough – homemade (recipe here) or shop bought.
- Tomato base – either tomato puree with a sprinkle of basil, oregano and black pepper, or a shop bought jar of tomato pizza base sauce.
- Cheese (optional)
- Toppings of your choice.
OR
- A cheap shop bought pizza.
- Mushrooms + other toppings of your choice.
- A drizzle of olive oil.
Pumpkin Pizza Ball

- Preheat your oven to 200c / 180c fan / gas mark 6.
- Roll out a sheet of pizza dough and spread your tomato base, followed by your toppings on top.
- Carefully roll up the dough along a long edge, trapping the toppings inside.

- Optional: Cut a small section off one open end and roll it up to create a stalk.
- Pinch one open end together to seal it.
- Starting with the still open end, roll up the dough like a snail.

- Tie 3 pieces of string (make sure the string you use isn’t coloured and isn’t plastic) around the ball at different angles. Don’t tie them too tight. The dough will expand in the oven and you want the string to hold the dough in shape, not cut into it. You want to still be able to get a finger between the dough and the string.

- Transfer to a baking tray and bake the pumpkin, along with the stalk, if making, for about 20mins in the oven, or until the dough is crisp.
- Once fully baked, Snip the string and pull out each piece.

- If You’ve made a stalk, poke a knife into the centre of your pumpkin and push the stalk into the hole.
- Serve immediately.

Scary Face Calzone

- Preheat your oven to 200c / 180c fan / gas mark 6.
- Split you pizza dough into 2 halves and roll out each halve into equal sized circles.
- Spread your tomato base on both halves, but put your toppings on only one.

- Place the side with just tomato base, tomato side down, on top of the other half, so the filling is sandwiched in the middle.
- Crimp the edges together to seal them.

- Cut a spooky face into the top layer of pizza dough. Get creative, the creepier the better.

- Bake for about 20mins in the oven, or until the dough is crisp.
- If you find parts of your face have sealed up a bit in the oven, just re-cut once cooked.
- Serve immediately.

Gravestone Calzone

- Preheat your oven to 200c / 180c fan / gas mark 6.
- Roll out a sheet of pizza dough and cut it into two rectangles.
- Spread your tomato base on both halves, but put your toppings on only one.

- Place the side with just tomato base, tomato side down, on top of the other half, so the filling is sandwiched in the middle.
- Crimp the edges together to seal them. Keep one short side, and both long sides straight, but tuck the corners of the other short side in, to create a curve.

- Cut an apt gravestone message into the top layer of pastry.
- Bake for about 20mins in the oven, or until the dough is crisp.
- If you find your message has sealed up a bit in the oven, just re-cut once cooked.

- Serve immediately.

Shroom Ghouls Pizza

- Wash a handful of mushrooms and slice them down the centre. Make sure each side has some stalk still attached. If you’re using large mushrooms, cut some of the top away too, so the sections that are attached to stalks sit flat.

- Twist the tip of a sharp knife into the top of the mushroom halves to create eyes, and slice the stalks to create teeth or noses.

- Top a shop bought cheese pizza with Halloween coloured toppings (green pesto, orange peppers, sweetcorn, olives etc) followed by your Shroom Ghouls and drizzle a small amount of olive oil on top.

- Cook according to the instructions on the pizza, but bear in mind that it may need a couple more mins now that you’ve added toppings.
- Serve immediately.

Happy Halloween Pesketeers!
